What is Baking Soda?

Baking soda, also known as Sodium bicarbonate, is a wonderful household product for much more than baking! The natural mineral form is nahcolite.

How does it work?

A common use of baking soda is for taking a bath. Adding baking soda to the water will help detox the body. The baking soda will dissolve & be absorbed into the skin.


Relieve itchy skin and sunburns

A baking soda bath is recommended to soothe itchy skin after bug bites or bee stings. It can also sooth sunburned skin.

Diaper rash

Baking soda is a great way to heal diaper rash because it helps to soothe skin, get rid of bacteria, and balance out acidity levels.

Yeast infections

Baking soda baths can soothe and relieve yeast infection symptoms such as:

  • itching
  • burning
  • swelling


Side effects

Using baking soda during a bath is typically safe. Dissolved baking soda can be absorbed into the skin so take caution of the following:

  • high blood pressure
  • serious infections or open wounds
  • diabetes
  • pregnant or nursing
  • currently using drugs or alcohol
